Why a Custom bike? six great reasons

Personalisation

Having a bike built up from a bare frame gets you exactly what you're looking for. Do you want a gravel bike but you're actually going to spend 99% of the time on tarmac? Is durability more important to you than a fancy groupset? Do you have a particular aesthetic you're aiming for? We can do all of that

A Perfect Fit

Off the peg bikes come with fixed component sizes. Swapping parts comes at additional expense, and sometimes it's a BIG expense, especially if new cables and hoses are required. With a custom build, the world is your oyster and you can get it bang on from the word go

Built With Care and Attention

Even some of the most eye-wateringly expensive bikes are thrown together on a production line without any care given to the build. We've seen 5 figure bikes assembled without a spot of grease. To say this is bad is a serious understatement. Every bike built by us is put together the same way we'd assemble and set up our own bikes. Greased, torqued, set up with precision. Every time.

No corners cut

Most manufacturers cut costs wherever possible on their factory bikes. Some hide their cost cutting in hard to see places, such as cheap cassettes, cables, chains and notoriously, wheels. Other manufacturers' corner cutting is visibly obvious, but on paper looks like a reasonable swap-out. Something like a non-groupset crank may look like it would be equivalent quality when you compare the RRP's, but in reality the quality doesn't match up, and aftermarket spare parts can be absurdly expensive

Better Value for Money

Custom Builds have historically been the preserve of the very wealthy, but after some number crunching, we've found we can supply bikes of equivalent quality compared to mainstream brands for the same, if not better value, especially when you consider all the other points raised here

Professional Advice, not Marketing Spiel

If we don't think something is any good, we won't supply it on a custom build. You will only see parts on our calculator that we stand by and believe in, not whatever gets the price down to a certain point or makes the most profit. You may notice there is a major brand missing from our build list. There's a reason for that.

Example Builds

Gravel

Probably our favorite category of bike. The Swiss Army Knife of bikes

All-City Cosmic Stallion

£2899

We've done several custom Cosmic Stallions, this particular one sits nicely in the middle of the build price spectrum with GRX 1x11 mechanical gears, Tifosi finishing kit and with a nice Hope wheel and rotor upgrade

All-City Space Horse

£2999

This bike can be whatever you want it to be. Shown here with GRX 800 and ritchey wheels and finishing kit, it's a showcase in modern meets retro

Norco Search

£1999

This is a one-off but we can do a similar build with a different frame from Kinesis or All-City.

GRX 400, Tifosi finishing Kit, Shimano hubs on Mach1 tubeless rims shod with Schwalbe Overland 365's make this the ultimate gravel-commuter

Road

Whether it's for racing, leisure or even commuting, we can build a road bike to suit you

Kinesis R2

£1499

This is where the prices start on drop bar builds, a Tiagra 2x10 Hydraulic groupset, Tifosi finishing kit and Shimano RS171 wheels. Ready for rack and mudguards to build the ultimate commuter or winter training bike

All-City Zig Zag

£4199

The buck stops here. The most beautiful endurance road bike money can buy. Shown here with a 105 groupset and Genetic finishing Kit, the Halo wheels were upgraded later on to some hand-built Hope hubs with 40mm deep carbon rims

Kinesis Aethein

£2999

Fast as f*ck. The last Silver 105 groupset in the country went on this, along with matching Ritchey Classic wheels and finishing kit. Just 8.5kg, who needs carbon?

Mountain

If you can dream it, we can build it

Kinesis FF29

£2749

This is a real world reckoning of how a hardtail for UK conditions should be built. Spend money where it matters:  DVO Diamond D1, Nobby Nic Super Trails, Chosen hubs with big wide rims, Renthal carbon bar with ESI grips

Save money where perfectly good cheaper kit can be used instead. Deore gears, MT420 brakes, KS Rage dropper

Norco Sight

£5999

We went to town on this build. Full Hope, full XTR, except for the bars, anything that could be hope or XTR is! Careful and classy coordination of grips, saddle, bottle cage and cable housings add a splash of colour without going overboard
