Kinesis were established in 2004 offering a handful of lightweight aluminium frames at a great price. Now they offer a comprehensive range of aluminium and titanium bikes. Their focus is on mile-munching machines, be that on road, gravel or trail
The aluminium Tripster was originally conceived as a multi-purpose cyclocross, touring and commuting bike long before anyone even used the term "gravel bike". It's on the comfort/capability end of the gravel spectrum. Only available as a frameset, it retails for £900, including a fancy Columbus Futura Cross+ carbon fork. It comes in seven sizes and two lovely paint jobs.
The G2 is Kinesis' entry level gravel offering, available only as a complete bike with Sram Apex 1x11, The G2 is lauded by Guy Kesteven as the only drop bar bike you really need. Available in 4 sizes at £1680
Blurring the lines between a Cyclocross bike and a Gravel bike, the GX race can be used for either. Great tyre clearance for capability off road and more sprightly, fast handling for CX or Gravel racing, it still has rack mounts if you need them but make no mistake, this bike is on the faster end of the gravel bike spectrum. Available in two colours and seven sizes as a frameset only for £925
Take one of the best bikepacking gravel bikes out there and improve the comfort, desirability and durability by making it from titanium. You keep all of the mounts and features of the Tripster, but everything is turned up to 11. Available in eight(!) sizes and no paint jobs. Raw only baby! £2,400
Cor blimey. Truly monstrous tyre clearance! Officially all sizes can guarantee a 29x2.0" tyre fit, but we've heard rumours that some sizes can even fit a 2.35"! It also has dropper post routing, begging the question, is this a gravel bike or a drop bar mountain bike? 7 sizes at £900 for a frameset
GTD stands for Go The Distance! Designed the late, great Mike Hall for crossing continents, this titanium beauty is the ultimate endurance road bike. It's got all the braze-ons you could ever need for foul weather and light touring too. Available as a frameset only in seven sizes and no paint jobs. Raw only baby! £2,400
The R1 & R2 are Kinesis' entry level road offerings, available as a complete bike with Shimano Tiagra (R2) or 1x11 apex (R1) both for £1680, or as a frameset only for £650. The R1/R2 shares the same, versatile frameset, not as racy as an Aithein, not as relaxed as an RTD. It makes the perfect entry into the world of road cycling, or makes an excellent commuter/winter trainer for more experienced cyclists. 4 sizes in black (R2) or white (R1)
No messing about, no false pretences about comfort, this thing is fast, fast, fast. Possibly the lightest aluminium road frameset on the market, this machine takes the fight straight to the fastest machines on the planet. There are many, many heavier carbon frames on the market than this, and as complete bikes go, you'd have to spend twice as much to get close to the total weight of the right build on an Aithein frame. The frameset is available in five sizes in metallic purple at £900
RTD stands for Race The Distance! Inspired by the original GTD, but executed in Scandium Alloy, it's even lighter than the GTD, without sacrificing comfort like most alloy bikes do. Admittedly, it's not as durable as titanium but it's a lot lighter on your wallet and definitely going to take a lot more of a pounding than anything made of carbon! Like the GTD it's ready for UK weather and bikepacking too. Available as a frameset only in seven sizes in black. £950
Bang up to date geometry, light weight, good looking and stellar value for money. The FF29 has some great tricks up it's sleeve. No daft internal cable routing, adjustable dropouts to dial in the handling or to run singlespeed or even hub gears. 29er boost wheel fitment designed with a 140mm travel fork in mind. Available in 4 sizes and 2 colours, frame only for just £600
This is a bit of an oddity, you either get it, or you don't. It's designed for big distance, multi day off the beaten track rides. For that you'd need to take a fair bit of gear; a sleeping bag, stove, spare layers, food and water, maybe even a small tent. It's actually very very capable off road for a rigid bike, with great geometry so it could potentially be the only bike you ever need. It's not a mountain biker's mountain bike, its an outdoor enthusiasts mountain bike. Available in 5 sizes in raw titanium. It's £2,400 for the frame only, and the fork is optional at £450
