Please call us on 0117 910 9618 if you cannot find an answer to your question
The universal answer to most questions is "bring it down and we'll have a look"
Quite simply, when you book, you're booking an appointment for us to inspect your bike to determine the cost and lead time. Please note this does not mean the bike will be serviced as soon as you drop your bike in.
There are a few shops in and around Bristol that will only service a bike if you purchased it from them. We don't care where you bought your bike from or what brand it is. If the bike is still under warranty we can also deal with warranty claims on some parts fitted to bikes bought elsewhere, but not the frames or own-brand parts unless they are from a brand we already deal with. Administration fees will be incurred for warranty claims on bikes and parts not supplied by us.
If the bike is less than 12 weeks old and bought elsewhere it will undertake what's known in the bicycle and automotive industry as a Pre-Delivery Inspection. We have seen a drastic uptake in high-end bikes purchased online via certain cycle to work scheme providers, many of these are woefully assembled with seemingly zero care for performance or safety, which can lead to the bike becoming damaged or even injury/death in extreme scenarios. We won't name names, but if you've got a cycle to work scheme option and you have a choice of buying online or buying local, do the right thing and purchase it from the nearest independent provider of the model you want. Because of the risk transferred to us on the high ticket values of these bikes, we charge £60 or 5% of the advertised RRP, whichever is greater
With the exception of puncture repairs, this is not a service we offer. If you need your bike for work purposes, ask us if there is a courtesy bike available. If you need the bike to get home we can come and collect it from you instead
Every bike repair is different, sometimes we can overhaul a bike in just a couple of hours but some bikes have us sweating and swearing for a couple of days for something theoretically simple like a replacement headset bearing. We try to keep the pricing as low as possible however if your bike has internal cable routing, tubeless or tubular tyres or a press fit bottom bracket you can expect the labour charge to be slightly higher. Our labour rates are based on the assumption that we will provide any parts the bike may require, and do not apply if you're bringing in parts provided by a competitor
Parts are charged in addition on an as-used basis. It's impossible to include parts in the pricing structure as every bike repair is different
We have a large selection of parts in stock, we can also get almost anything else the next working day and we'd really appreciate your business in that respect. You can bring your own parts in, however our standard service charges do not apply in these cases and those jobs are charged at a half-hourly rate. The job will go into the queue and work will commence once other pre-booked jobs have been completed.
Bear in mind that any warranty issues you may encounter are the responsibility of the original retailer that provided them, so if a part supplied elsewhere goes wrong you'll have to pay someone to remove and refit it and deal with the warranty claim yourself.
There are some parts we will not fit if not bought from us. Anything we might deem unsafe, such as incompatibilities between different parts, anything we feel might be a counterfeit or of otherwise poor quality.
Tubeless tyres, whilst absolutely brilliant, can be a real pain in the neck to set up sometimes, they can make a real mess of our workshop and our clothes. If you're not supporting us by purchasing the tyres and materials from us, we're not going to be particularly enthusiastic about undertaking the work
We're happy to do one-off small jobs outside of the ones listed on our website, however:
Yes! However during busy periods, if we have no physical space to store your bike we may ask you to bring it back once we've cleared through any bikes waiting for collection. It's always good to get a look at a bike before we book it in so if its convenient for you we strongly encourage it
Ideally we'd like you to pick it up within 2 opening days of completion, however we're aware this is not always possible. If the bike is having to be stored for more than 10 opening days after completion, storage charges may be added to your bill at our discretion.
We take card or cash when you collect the bike, with collection and delivery we take a deposit up front but this is refundable off the repair or a replacement bike. You can now also pay for your repair via Cyclescheme or Green Commute Initiative.
In certain circumstances we may ask for a £30 inspection fee up front, which is deducted from repair or replacement of the bike. If we need to special order parts for your bike we may ask for a deposit to cover those up front.
Sometimes Apple and Google pay don't work with our card reader so do bring the physical card and not just your phone (don't forget your PIN number!)
Unlike a lot of workshops, we're insured to store and work on electric bikes, and have lots of experience in doing so. There are a few things to bear in mind however:
For a start, thanks for your honesty. A lot of people do this, then don't tell us, which can make the job a lot more complicated than it needs to be. Please let us know as much as possible about the history of the bike before we undertake any work. This also applies if your mate/Dad/partner has had a go at it first or if you bought the bike second hand
As the scouts say, if you fail to prepare, prepare to fail... We get that sometimes things just break at inopportune moments, and when that happens we'll do our best to get you back up and running again in time for whatever urgent thing it is that you need it for.
Mostly however, bikes suffer a gradual decline until they become a nuisance. During the peak of summer, there can often be a 4 week turnaround for repairs with 30 bikes in the queue, by asking us to put you at the top of the queue, we may be letting down 30 people patiently waiting for their bikes, so we may ask you to pay more so we can offer those we've let down a discount for their understanding of the matter. For future reference, the best time to service your bike is when you don't need it
Our half-hourly rate is £60 per 30 mins, and is discounted by 50% if we supply all of the parts. With the exclusion of puncture repairs, our minimum labour charge is £30 for up to 15 mins, after which it jumps to £60 per half-hour started
